Housewalk-Speakeasy 2022

The Cathedral Area’s signature Housewalk event is back this year, with a twist! The Housewalk Speakeasy will feature an optional signature cocktail at each of the five featured homes as well as a speakeasy themed party tent.

Admission to the Speakeasy Tent is free (in other words, a housewalk ticket is not required for entry into the speakeasy party tent).


The five Buell Avenue homes featured this year are
:
427 Buell Avenue (Italianate style, circa 1887)
510 Buell Avenue (Shingle style, circa 1889)
603 Buell Avenue (Tudor Revival style, circa 1937),
613 Buell Avenue (Dutch Colonial Revival style, circa 1908)
614 Buell Avenue (Free Classic Queen Anne style, circa 1912)


House tours will run from 12 pm to 5 pm. Tours can be completed at your own leisure. See the EventBrite link at bottom for more information.


There are two ticket options.

Option one: Traditional Housewalk ticket at $25.

Option two: Speakeasy Housewalk ticket at $45 and entitles you to a carefully crafted signature drink of the home, in addition to the tour (21 and over, ID required). Beer and non-alcoholic beverage alternatives will also be available at each of the five houses with this ticket option. Housewalk tickets must be bought in advance The “Speakeasy Tent will be located on the front lawn of 506 Buell Avenue and will be active from 3:00 pm until 10:30 pm. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and food by Mo Joe’s will be available to purchase. LIVE music by the Big Lagniappe starting at after 5 pm.


Event parking will take place at the University of St. Francis Parking lot at 500 Taylor Street.
A map depicting the homes, “Speakeasy Tent,” and designated parking is attached. Limited ADA parking will be available and that information will be updated on Eventbrite a couple days before the event.

2019 Events

CAPA Annual Meeting

The CAPA Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday, January 18th, at the Jacob Henry Mansion. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased online HERE.

Beer Walk tickets on sale August 1st!

Tickets for the 3rd Annual CAPA Beer Walk (held on Saturday, Sept 28th from 1pm-6pm) go live at 10am TOMORROW (Aug 1st) and can be purchased at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/capa-beer-walk-2019-tickets-66123287533. If you hit the ‘Remind Me’ button on that link, Eventbrite will send you a reminder 1 hour before tickets go on sale. I will also send an email around at 10am tomorrow.

Tickets are $50 per person and include beer samples from 25 breweries, food tastings from 7 local restaurants, a souvenir glass, and the Walk will be held in 6 new backyards in the CAPA area. Tickets are limited to 4 per person and sell out quickly so we advice you to act fast if you would like to go.

There will also be a special Concert in the Park immediately following the Beer Walk. This event is facilitated by the Joliet Park District in conjunction with the CAPA Beer Walk.

Cathedral Area Preservation Association Block Party

Saturday,  July 27, 2019
500 Block of Knox Place(between Douglas and Taylor Streets)
4pm – 10pm

Eat, drink, listen to music, and get to know your neighbors! Bring a  side dish or dessert if you would like. There will be a taco truck from 5pm to 10pm offering $2 tacos, churros, ice cream, and pop. We will provide tables, chairs, and even porta-potties!  BYOB

The Joliet Fire Department will have a truck on site from 4-5 pm. There will be plenty of fun activities for kids!

To Participate:
-You must be a member of CAPA. If you are unsure whether you are a member, you can email membership@capajoliet.net to inquire. If you would like to sign up to become a member, please see our Join & Renew page.

-All advertising is paid for and organized by CAPA
-You can participate all 3 days or any number of days that work for you
-Lists/Maps will be available at select locations and on multiple online venues
-You may elect to print your own (lists/maps will be sent via email)
-Advertised hours will be 8am-4pm. You can extend the time of your sale if you
choose to do so.

 

CAPA Valley Wine Walk 2019

The 4th Biennial “CAPA Valley Wine Walk” is scheduled from 3pm – 7pm on Saturday, September 7th. Guests will taste twelve wines from around the world, served at four historical neighborhood homes. There will also be food pairings provided by Chef Tim Bucci and the award winning Joliet Junior College Culinary Arts Department. Wine orders will be available and each guest will receive a souvenir “CAPA Valley” wine glass.

Tickets are limited within each group. Group A will have their tastings in homes near the Raynor Ave Corridor, while Group B will have their tastings in homes near the Western Ave Corridor. The homes are within walking distance and your group will be scheduled to view each of the four homes within that Corridor, learn about wine, and sample the various wines and food provided.

Community Clean Up – Saturday, May 4th, 2019 @ Preservation Park

Join the Cathedral Area Preservation Association and neighboring organizations for our annual Community Clean Up at 10am on Saturday, May 4th, at Preservation Park. We will supply garbage bags, gloves, Home Cut Donuts and coffee. All are welcome. We will start at the park and work our way through the neighborhood cleaning up any litter along the way. Help us in keeping the Cathedral Area clean!

CAPA Annual Meeting- Saturday, February 9th, 2019

Please join us on Saturday, February 9th at the beautiful Jacob Henry Mansion Gathering Room for the CAPA Annual Meeting from 5:30pm – 8:30pm. Enjoy an hors d’oeuvre reception and social activities with fellow CAPA members. $20 per person and we encourage you to bring a non-CAPA member neighbor at no additional cost. CAPA Christmas Decorating Contest- Wednesday, December 19th, 2018

The 2018 CAPA Christmas Decorating Contest will be held on Wednesday, December 19th. We will be looking for 3 homes with the most holiday spirit. If you’re interested in being a judge for the contest, please send us a message and we will send you the details. It begins at 6:30pm and will be a fun time! This event is sponsored by the University of St. Francis.

CAPA Beer Walk- Saturday, September 29th, 2018

The 2nd Annual CAPA Beer Walk will be held on Saturday, September 29th! Last year’s event sold out in 2 days, so be sure to mark your calendars for August 1st when tickets will go on sale. This year promises even more craft beer and delicious food along with another home added to the Walk. More details to come! This Olde Housewalk- Sunday, September 9th, 2018

The Housewalk committee has begun working on this year’s walk. We have four homes committed and USF’s Science Building. We would like a full assortment of houses on the walk, so if you’d like to add your house to walk, please contact us! The Housewalk will be on September 9th from Noon to 5PM. Tickets will go on sale in July. If you are interested in joining the Housewalk planning committee, we are always looking for fresh ideas and volunteers to make the walk a continued success. Community Clean Up – Saturday, May 19th, 2018 @ Preservation Park

Join the Cathedral Area Preservation Association, St. Raymond, St. John’s Neighborhood, and Big Brothers Big Sisters for the ultimate neighborhood clean up on Saturday, May 19th at Preservation Park. We will supply garbage bags, gloves, donuts and coffee. Help us in keeping the Cathedral Area clean! A neighborhood cookout will happen right after the clean up at 417 Taylor St.

Annual Spring Meeting – Monday, May 14th, 2018 @ First Presbyterian Church

The Spring Membership Meeting will be held on Monday May 14th at 6:30P.M. at First Presbyterian, which coincides with our regular meeting. The focus of this meeting will be two-fold. First, Mayor O’Dekirk will provide a short update on the City and answer any questions residents may have. Second, there will be a presentation on the Old Joliet Prison, given by Quinn Adamowski and Greg Peerbolte, Co-Chairs of the Prison Preservation Coalition. The purpose of the presentation is to explain the ongoing preservation initiative, answer questions and call for volunteers.
